The beauty of vintage...

The beauty of vintage is that it is has a history, but it can be worn in a new way, the star component of a very fashion forward style sense. Vintage dealers like me crave these timeless pieces of beauty and curate collections that span decades and merge trends.

The best of fashion, the most seductive materials, the exceptional details, the perfect dart and the most exquisite buttons, vintage is easy, sexy sophistication: the woman you can’t take your eyes off at a party whose amazing stories of her past match her fabulous charmeuse dress or killer crocodile heels. She's definitely the one you’ll remember the next morning when you’re recuperating from the bubbly.

Going Gaga

Although I often find myself defending some of her more bold sartorial choices, I don't think I'm alone in coveting Gaga's ALEXANDER WANG FOR LINDA FARROW SUNGLASSES, seen above, which are debuting this Spring at the painfully hip Opening Ceremony:

Hmmm... curious... they look an awful like this pair we have in the store by the fabulous Maud Frizon... who, by the way, is awesome, in case you didn't know. Originally a model in the day when they had to provide their own shoes, Frizon felt limited by the choices available to her and started designing shoes to go with the couture she was hired to wear. Her wikipedia page says "At the height of her success in the 1980s her reputation was similar to that of Blahnik today: very expensive, very sexy, very look at me! shoes that proclaimed that the wearer had both money and audacity." I think that attitude is pretty well exemplified by these Gaga-worthy glasses.

Leopard-skin Pill-Box Hat

"Well, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Yes, I see you got your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat

Well, you must tell me, baby

How your head feels under somethin’ like that

Under your brand new leopard-skin pill-box hat" -Bob Dylan

There are few items that we come by as iconic as this one here. Bob Dylan sang about it. Galliano throws them in his Dior Couture shows. There's an awesome balance between the style (pill box hats, most famously worn by Jackie O.) and the material (leopard print has traditioanlly had a bit of a stigma of vulgarity, even when real like this one. They are, after all, on the endangered species list). It's what the first lady might wear if she had a bad streak.

Oh La La: Tres Chic!

What a miserably dreary weekend full of rain and dark clouds! It makes me want to dig through closet and pull out the most vibrant colors and wear them all at the same time! Something needs to pop out of this dismal grey. If only I could do it and look as chic as the young Catherine Deneuve in The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, I might have nothing to complain about.

If you haven't seen this movie it's worth running out in your Wellies for. Perfect for a day like today: the only thing more luscious than the tragedy of her love affair are the colors in her wardrobe (and the backdrops, which are played beautifully off each other).

This color palette is so 1964: bubble gum pink, canary yellow, sky blue, pumpkin orange, and that olive that was found in every kitchen, even on appliances.

It reminded me of the dresses I arranged on display to mark the coming of Spring and cheer us up a bit. She always looks so polished and put together- not always an easy task in this weather!

The classic trench is a great place to start!

Another totally classic look: the pleated skirt and cardigan. She threw in a extra little matching bow on top of her coiff which somehow manages to read chic, not froufrou. That's the power of Deneuve.

At a different point in the movie she's wearing a baby blue cardi over a matching gingham dress. So cute! It reminded me of a St. John's santana knit sweater we have here at the store:

Then I put it together with some Perry Ellis ribbon tie, patent leather mary janes and a matching hand bag with gold closure and she's set!

But don't let the cheery singing and bubblegum hues fool you... You'll be weeping buckets by the end! But then just do as Catherine does: put a bow in your hair and sing your cares away. The rain can actually be quite cleansing.

On a cold day like today it's hard not peruse through the Spring shows on Style.com and long for the day when we can welcome Spring with open caftan clad arms. So, in preparation for the vernal coming, 1ofaFind brings you our versions of our favorite looks from the runway. A whole catwalk vs. vintage affair.

I'm really into the whole masculine/feminine play going on for this season. Think oversized blazers and innerwear as outerwhere. Stella McCartney has a great version with lacy camis, high-waisted silk slacks paired with a sharp white blazer. I love the return of dusty rose, too, which is balanced nicely with a less than girly silhouette.

For our version we started with an adorable vintage teddy, some matching blush colored Sonia Rykiel slacks, and a double-breasted Genny cream blazer with big mother of pearl buttons. So peg your cuffs, throw on some stacked heels, grab your favorite clutch and your ready to go!

New On-Line Doors are Opening...

For those ladies who can't make it to Brooklyn to visit our lovely shop in person, we are now listing items for sale on MARKET PUBLIQUE. Last Spring we met Co-Founder Pamela Castillo at the V is for Vintage show in Soho. I immediately thought she was adorable and had great Vintage style. After talking shop we came across the subject of Ebay. We discussed how Ebay use to be a great place to find items but had become so difficult to Search and problematic for listing . Sorting through millions of items from Car Parts to Radios to Used panties (YUK!) In order to find great pieces you almost had to shop like it was a full time job. I like shopping, but come on now! Then of course Etsy came up and while they do have vintage, their main market is adorable, handmade crafts. Etsy is doing for independent Jewelry designers what My Space did for Independent bands. I love Etsy, but for Vintage I still feel like its not the Market I fall into for selling our collection. We Spoke, she told me all about her site as she bought a great pair of GAROLINI Heels. We exchanged numbers and left that door open for future discussions. I liked the Mission of Market Publique. A place SOLELY for Quality Vintage. What could be better? Time passed, the chaos of consolidating our two stores into our New Larger Prospect Heights location calmed and I was ready to re-embark on-line. I called Pamela, asked to meet her for coffee and that was that. We worked fast, made a Plan and Whalaa!!, Our Market Publique store is up and Running.

Check us Out!

Now you can buy some of our pieces from the comfort of your _______!

But Don't get too cozy... We always have surprise sales you can only enjoy IN our store.
